ADA Cottage - Personal Stories

Note: The names and stories are fictional. They serve to demonstrate the type of care and services ADA Cottage can provide.

Betty's Story

Betty is an 85 year old widow with three adult children, all of whom live interstate. Betty lived on her own in the home in which she raised her family, but in the last year she has found it difficult to clean the house and prepare her own meals. Betty and her family started to think about Betty's future care needs.

After some discussion, Betty decided to enter ADA Cottage assisted living, low level care. Betty has her own room and ensuite, and likes interacting with the other residents. Betty is happy in her new home and has made many friends. She does not have to worry about meals or even doing her laundry. Betty has time to enjoy bingo, reading and talking to her new friends.

Mary's Story

Mary is 70 and she has dementia. Since her diagnosis several years ago she has been living with her daughter and her young family.

Mary has become increasingly confused and distressed, her daughter has decided that her mother requires more care than she can provide in the home.

Mary moved into ADA Cottage and with a specific activities program, there has been an improvement in her mood.

Bob's Story

Bob is an 89 year old man who has been living with his wife of 70 years. Bob's wife, Jane has been caring for Bob at home. Now both Bob and Jane are suffering health concerns. They are unable to manage the preparation of meals, laundry or manage Bob's personal care needs.

After much discussion Bob and Jane visited friends at ADA Cottage and discovered that they could have an adjoining room.

Bob and Jane decided they would accept the low level; care on offer. They now have adjoining bedrooms with ensuite, and internal access to each others rooms.

They are very happy to spend their days in each others company as well as with their new friends.
