ADA Cottage - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my pet?

Large pets are not allowed, however exceptions may be made for small animals such as fish and birds. Arrangements can be made for residents to be able to visit with their pets. ADA Cottage currently has pets as therapy dogs.

How often can relatives and family visit?

Relatives, friends and family are welcome to visit ADA Cottage between 7.00 am and 11.00 pm, any day of the week.

Can I have a holiday?

As a resident of ADA Cottage you are entitled to have social leave of 52 days per year. This means that you are able to go on holidays or stay with family.

What kind of activities can I attend?

ADA Cottage residents are encouraged to maintain their independent social activities, such as continuing to attend CWA Meetings, Local lawn bowls, bingo at the club etc. Though activities are available within the Cottage including bingo, trivia, card games, international food days, fitness and physiotherapy programs, and organized outings.

What type of transport is available to me?

ADA Cottage has secure gopher parking area for those residents who have their own gopher, as well as our own gopher which is available for our residents use. Rylstone District Care & Transport is also available to take residents to appointments or social activities at a small fee. ADA Cottage takes residents shopping and to the bank one day a week.

Do I have to supply my own furniture?

ADA is able to provide furniture should you require. Should you have suitable furniture we encourage our residents to have their own belongings surrounding them. Due to the potential for falls we do not allow beds on non-lockable coasters, slippery linen or bed covers, or long bed spreads which catch around our resident’s feet.

Do you provide meals and are you able to cater to special dietary needs?

We provide for all of our residents meals, morning tea and afternoon tea. A dietician regularly reviews our menus to ensure that all nutritional requirements are met. We are able to provide meals which will meet most dietary needs such as diabetic, coeliac, low fat, pureed foods and thickened fluid diets.
