ADA Cottage

In March 1984, an Association was formed to establish an aged and disabled accommodation in Rylstone Kandos.

In 1987, the Association had raised funds from the local community and with a matching federal Government grant purchased a house in Cox Street, Rylstone for renovation into a hostel. The community had demonstrated a wide spread support for the Association, and fundraising commenced for the provision of a similar hostel in Kandos, with construction of the hostel in Kandos commenced in April 1990.

By this time the hostels had become known as ADA Cottages.

In 1998 the Federal Government offered Community Aged Care Packages, which provide care for aged persons still living in their own homes. The Community Aged Care Packages provide an important service to the elderly in their own homes, while offering a stepping stone into the Cottage environment.

By 1998 plans commenced for the development of self care units and an activity centre on land in Angus Avenue Kandos. The self care units have been designed for independent living, providing security, convenience, support and organized activities.

ADA can offer a diverse range of services to the aged and disabled persons in the community, ensuring ADA’s long term viability.

ADA Cottage is now a modern 19 bed facility located in Kandos, with 12 Community Aged Care Packages and 2 self care units. This is a tremendous achievement for a small community. It is the unique and generous support of the community which has allowed ADA Cottage to develop.

ADA Cottage is a wonderful example of how a small community can pull together to provide care for the aged and disabled in our community. ADA has a strong volunteer program, and appreciates the continued support of the Kandos Rylstone community.
